How We Work

A Clear, organized process from first contact to monthly support.

Working with a bookkeeper should not feel confusing. Our process is designed to help us understand your business, recommend the right level of support, and keep communication and documents organized from the start.

Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, Labor & Ledger serves U.S.-based businesses virtually through QuickBooks Online and a secure client portal.

The Onboarding Process

Fill out the intake questionnaire

Tell us a little about your business, bookkeeping needs, and current setup so we can make the most of your discovery call.

Join a 15-minute discovery call

We’ll talk through your business, your current bookkeeping process, and what kind of support you may need.

Allow a Quickbooks review

We’ll request view-only access to your Quickbooks Online file so we can prepare accurate recommendations. For more complex or outdated books, we may recommend a paid diagnostic review.

Receive a clear proposal

You’ll receive a recommended cleanup and/or service plan based on your business size, transaction volume, complexity and goals.

Start with a kickoff meeting

Once you’re ready to move forward, we’ll meet to confirm the plan, answer questions and set up processes that fit the way your business actually works.

Get Organized and stay support

Once services begin, you’ll use a secure client portal to send documents, respond to requests and keep everything moving.

Secure client portal

Once services begin, you’ll use a secure client portal to send documents, respond to requests, and keep bookkeeping communications organized.

  • Upload bank statements, receipts and supporting documents

  • respond to bookkeeping questions

  • View open requests

  • Keep communications organized

  • Track what still needs your attention

Clear Communication

Bookkeeping works best when questions, documents and deadlines are easy to track. We use the client portal for most document requests and bookkeeping questions, while phone and email remain available when a conversation is more helpful.

  • Clear requests when information is needed

  • Organized follow-up through the client portal

  • Regular communication during cleanup, onboarding and monthly work

  • A practical process that respects your time

  • No unnecessary meetings to check a box

  • Financial reviews on your schedule: monthly, quarterly or before tax season

What monthly support looks like

After onboarding, bookkeeping support follows a regular monthly rhythm. Each month, we review transactions, reconcile accounts, request missing details and prepare financial reports, based on the services included in your plan, and what you want to see.

Working with your CPA

We do not provide tax preparation or tax advisory services, but we can help coordinate bookkeeping related information with your CPA or tax professional when needed.

Our goal

The goal is not just to keep Quickbooks updated. It is to help your business have more reliable numbers, better organization and a bookkeeping process that supports the way your business actually works.
